Personalized basic manners dog training for real-life results

Group dog training classes can be great, but too often the results stay behind in the classroom.

Instead, let’s do the training where you need your dog to behave their best—wherever that may be.

Two Ways to Get The Job Done

We offer two programs to enjoy a well-mannered dog:

1.
Take the Leash:
You Train

We teach you to train your dog.
  1. After an initial assessment and planning consult, you meet with your certified dog trainer for weekly sessions at our training center, in your home, or wherever you want to see better behavior (your neighborhood, the park, the car, etc.)
  2. We coach you and your dog together
  3. You do your basic manners training homework during the week
  4. We support you along the way via email and phone for optimal results
Take the Leash Perks
  • Written follow up as needed
  • Daily email access
  • Guaranteed weekly spot
Perfect for you if:

You’re actively interested in dog training.

2.
Hand Over the Leash:
We train your dog for you.

We train your dog for you.
  1. After an initial assessment and planning consult, your dog trainer works with your dog 3 to 5 times per week in your home or wherever you want to see better behavior (your neighborhood, the park, the car, etc.)
  2. We meet once per week to transfer our training results to you
  3. You enjoy a well-behaved dog
Hand Over the Leash Perks
  • Weekly video of training sessions
  • Prepped and stuffed Kongs and work-to-eat toys: One left with your best friend after each training session, and more left in the freezer for you to use to keep your dog gainfully employed in the evening
  • Cleaned water and food bowls
  • Daily potty break as part of each training session
  • Peace of mind of knowing progress is being made while you tend to other things on your full plate
  • A tired, calm dog to come home to
Perfect for you if:

You’re as busy as most of our clients and want quick results without all the work

Step 1: Your Initial Behavior Assessment Consult

We’d love to work with you. If you feel we’re the right fit, the first step is your initial consult.
Come to our clinic in Castle Pines, or we’ll come to your home for convenience.
We’ll take a history, meet your dog, and listen to your training goals. Then we’ll formulate a personalized plan and schedule your training. We’ll also begin some foundation exercises, answer your pressing questions, and put a management plan in place for immediate relief.

Step 2: Your Customized Training Program

Your personalized training program will be just that: personalized. We’ll create a plan specific to your training goals and your busy lifestyle. And you get to decide whether to Take the Leash (we’ll teach you to train your dog) or Hand Over the Leash (we’ll train your dog for you!).

Why hand over the leash?

Many of our clients choose to Hand Over The Leash and have their dedicated behavior consultant carry out their training plan for them. It’s no wonder: Coloradans have unique lifestyle demands and commute challenges. We’re active people. Adding daily dog training practice sessions to an already over-burdened schedule often just isn’t feasible.

Here are the advantages of letting us train for you:

Faster results

Stronger, more lasting results

Progress while you work

Peace of Mind

Why don’t dogs just behave?

Though long-domesticated, dogs are far from human and don’t come pre-programmed for civilized society. But that’s okay, because they do come pre-programmed for learning. The trick to a well-behaved dog is using communication dogs can understand (if only they could learn English!) . When we communicate properly with our dogs, they can succeed in our homes and out on adventures in the mountains. Once you understand how dogs think and learn, and how to use that knowledge, teaching basic manners is a snap.

Ready to work around distractions?

Come to our manners class! We’ll work on our basic skills in a busy but controlled environment, with other people and dogs, to help your pet learn to be the best hiking partner they can be!

What our clients have to say (Thanks, Penny)

Baker is a new dog! He’s running, playing with toys, and playing with other dogs like never before… What a difference in our boy! Thanks Dr. C and the whole team at Behavior Vets!
